The Virtua Fighter series has, throughout its run, made a number of significant innovations in the 3D fighting arena. From literally inventing the 3D fighting genre to single-handedly making fighting games cool again, Yu Suzuki's flagship fighting series is not to be underestimated in any way. While there was an arguably lack in popularity with Virtua Fighter 3, Virtua Fighter came back stronger than ever with the release of Virtua Fighter 4. The game went back to the classic three-button format and retained the depth and sophistication that the VF games are known for while adding in a number of truly fantastic modes, namely the Kumite mode. Not too long ago, announced that, a literal 'evolution' of the original Virtua Figher 4, would be headed stateside late this summer. Evo includes a number of alterations, as well as additions, the most obvious being two characters: Goh and Brad. Additionally, a new Quest mode has been implemented that takes the place of the previously mentioned Kumite mode.

The Quest mode is more of an improvement on the Kumite mode, allowing easier access to the game's hundreds of wearable collectibles (for the game characters, not you, silly). And while certain features were completely removed (you can't train and teach a fighter anymore), AM2 has graciously bestowed upon us what is probably one of the greatest extra features in a game, ever: Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary. Let's be clear on this: Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversay is not a separate, standalone title as some sources have reported.

Rumors and speculation have led people to believe that Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary might be a bonus disc with VF Evo, or that perhaps it would be released at some point in the future, possibly as a budget title. Truth is, neither of these are anywhere near the truth. In fact, the truth is something much better than any of the rumors. To set the record straight, Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary is a mode included in Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution, so there's no fee to pay or extra disc to manage. And the best part is, Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution is launching at the fabulous price of twenty bones. So what exactly is Virtua Fighter 10th Anniversary?

Well, as you can plainly see in the screenshot, VF 10th Anniversary lets you play Virtua Fighter 4 Evolution with the classic, bold polygonal style that the very first Virtua Fighter characters used so many years ago. Also, in addition to adopting the look of Virtua Fighter, all of the stages from the now legendary game are included.

While it may appear as more of a novelty than anything else, the inclusion of these stages is more significant than you might think. See, the stages are generally smaller than those in Virtua Figher 4 Evo, and, of course, there are no walls in any of the stages. And for the more skilled players, this can dramatically affect your strategic angle.
