I am trying to install.NET framework 4.0 full, downloaded from the microsoft website (can't post links). But it fails with the error 0x80070643 at about 30% when installing the Client Profile. I have tried deleting framework using the cleanup tool, downloading again, downloading the stand alone installer, applying a couple of fixes from microsoft that should solve the problem and many other solutions found on the forums but nothing helps. But I have noticed that my computer was running slower after the updated and decided to roll back the update and used System Restore to return my computer to the point right before the update. There was an auto generated restore point made right before the update began.

The restore was successful and my computer was back to the state it was in before. After a few days of using it, I noticed that some downloaded programs stopped working, even those that were used before with no problems. They all gave the same error ' has stopped working' on launch. I searched for solutions and discovered that the problem was much more serious. Some tools such as the Program Compatibility troubleshooter and the Fix It tools from microsoft were reporting the same error.

Even the Event Viewer was not working. I thought that the problem was with the.NET Framework, since it was the only thing that got changed with the update. I deleted it with the cleanup tool and tried installing it again but it gave me the same error that it is giving me now. I have tried lots of different solutions but none of them help and in the end I gave up hope and decided to reinstall the system.

But before that, I wanted to run Windows Update again, now selecting all of the available updates, maybe god would look upon me. And amazingly he did. After about 4-5 consecutive restarts, and a few errors how Windows update failed to install and was rolling back, the system booted up and the problem was partially gone. The failed windows update rollback somehow installed framework 3.5 again and solved the problem.

Almost all of the programs and tools that were not working now started to work again. But now I do not have Framework 4.0 and programs that depend on it fail to start. I have tried installing it and it always failed with the same error and that is why I am opening this thread. I guess that I'm missing some system files that got deleted when using system restore. But which ones. Please save this poor computer from being reinstalled because its owner is going to have a lot of work backing up these 500 gb of data and setting everything how it was before.:D.
